Every year, an average of 140 women die from cervical cancer and 430 are newly diagnosed.

Protect yourself from cervical cancer and STDs through regular gynecologist appointments. Gynecologists diagnose and treat conditions and disease of the female reproductive system.

Our physicians offer routine screenings for STDs including HIV and HPV while also offering contraceptive counseling to women of reproductive age. In addition, women over the age of 40 are encouraged to talk to their gynecologist about breast cancer screenings.

Here is some more information on the services our gynecologists offer:

  • Regular pap screenings detect precancerous cells and will prevent cervical cancer by starting highly effective treatment.
  • Minority groups are disproportionately affected, with latino women being the most at-risk.
  • It is recommended that you get screened at least once every 3 years if you have not been vaccinated against HPV.
  • HPV immunizations are available to eligible patients.
  • HPV vaccines protect against 70% of cervical cancers and 90% of genital warts.
  • The vaccine includes two or three doses around half a year apart.
  • The full benefit of the vaccine occurs if the patient receives both doses before any infection.
  • It is still recommended to be screened, albeit far less frequently if you’ve been vaccinated.
  • In order to know what’s normal for you, you should get to know the shape of your breasts, including how they feel and change over your menstrual cycle.
  • If you notice lumps, abnormalities in size or shape, or puckering of the skin, book an appointment as soon as possible and request a breast cancer screening.
  • If your family has a history of breast cancer, talk to your gynecologist as they may recommend regular precautionary screenings.
  • The CDC suggests that women over 50 with an average risk of breast cancer should be screened at least every 2 years. Discuss with your gynecologist whether to begin screening earlier.

If you are sexually active and aren’t planning to have children, there are many safe methods of contraception for you to choose from. Choosing which option is best for you may seem daunting but our gynecologist here at QueensDocs can help inform you how each option works, their general effectiveness, and talk you through which would best suit your body and your lifestyle.
